New Year, Same Old Senate
It is a new year, but State Senator Tom George (R-Kalamazoo) and the Senate Health Policy Committee are still trying to turn back the clock.
On November 4, 2008 over 2.5 million Michigan citizens voted to pass Proposal 2, lifting the restrictions on embryonic stem cell research, giving hope to millions of people who could benefit from this vital research. On Wednesday January 20th, the Senate Health Policy Committee will try again to take that hope away.
The Senate Health Policy Committee is preparing to pass bills (SB 647-652) that would limit the promise of embryonic stem cell research, restricting the ability of citizens to donate embryos and placing unnecessary restrictions on our state’s top-rate researchers.
We need to keep the legislatures’ hands off our state’s world-renowned researchers and let them use stem cell research to make Michigan a national leader in critical bio-medical research that could unlock cures and treatments to diseases and illnesses like cancer, Parkinson’s, juvenile diabetes and Alzheimer’s.
