Voice of the People
In 2008 over 2.5 million Michigan citizens voted overwhelmingly to pass Proposal 2, which lifted the restrictions on embryonic stem cell research, giving hope to millions of people who could benefit from this groundbreaking and lifesaving research. But on Wednesday, December 9th, the Senate Health Policy committee and Chairman Tom George (R-Kalamazoo) are taking the first step towards taking this hope away.
The Senate Health Policy committee is preparing to pass bills (SB 647-652) that would limit the promise of embryonic stem cell research, restricting the ability of citizens to donate embryos and placing unnecessary restrictions on our state’s top-rate researchers.
We need to keep the legislatures’ hands off our state’s world-renowned researchers and let them use stem cell research to make Michigan a national leader in critical bio-medical research that could unlock cures and treatments to diseases and illness like cancer, Parkinson’s, juvenile diabetes and Alzheimer’s.
Join the Coalition for Progress in telling the Senate Health Policy Committee that the people have spoken and the search for treatments and cures cannot wait.
