2006 Accomplishments
In the 2006 Michigan general election, we ran an integrated campaign to help elect progressive state legislators, including re-electing Governor Jennifer Granholm.
We ran seven television commercials across the state, to ensure voters knew the true record of the conservative Republican legislature. We reminded voters about conservative Republican support for making Michigan a dumping ground for trash from Canada and New Jersey. We also reminded voters that conservative Republicans supported tax breaks for corporations that outsource jobs and for companies that move offshore.
In addition to working toward a more progressive legislature, we informed voters of Dick DeVos’ hard right agenda and his anti-worker past. We ran television commercials that exposed DeVos’ record of eliminating 1400 jobs in Michigan and moving Amway offshore to avoid paying Michigan taxes. We also pointed out Dick DeVos’ opposition to life-saving stem cell research.
Our television ads made a difference in Michigan politics. We made sure that hundreds of thousands of Michigan voters knew the anti-working family, pro-corporate record of Dick DeVos and the conservative Republicans in the legislature.
Our work in Michigan helped keep a progressive in the Governor's mansion and elect a Democratic majority in the State House of Representatives including a couple new progressives, as well as a new progressive Democratic seat in the State Senate.
In addition to our successful awareness campaign, we recruited thousands of progressives across Michigan to join our cause.
